#BAMEONLINE – DECOLONISING WEALTH w/ VANESSA THOMAS

Martha Awojobi sits down with Vanessa Thomas for an in-depth discussion about philanthropy, reparations, and love.

Most of us have heard of the term reparations. More often than not, the word reparations unsettles those who benefit from the exploitation of Black people and People of Colour across the world.

Reparations is about healing.

Decolonising wealth explores how money can facilitate healing from generations of colonial theft and trauma. Decolonising wealth not only looks at the history of wealth accumulation and racism, it opens a pathway toward healing and reconciliation through radical reparative giving and narrative change.

Vanessa Thomas has worked in philanthropy for over 6 years and currently serves as the Director for Global Programs at Decolonizing Wealth Project. Dedicated to power shifting philanthropy and equity in global development, Vanessa has spent her career disrupting sector norms, from single story African narratives in communications, and pervasive anti-Black racism, to how and who donors fund.

In this conversation, Vanessa Thomas and Martha Awojobi will discuss disrupting the existing systems of moving and controlling capital and how money can be used as a tool of love, reconciliation and restoration.

Join us at 5 pm (GMT) on 17th March – this one is not to be missed!

If you can’t make it on the day, do still grab a ticket and we will send you the recording afterwards 🙂
